Swindon Dolphin built on their achievements of the opening weekend of this year’s Wiltshire County Youth competition, adding another 6 senior and 5 junior championships on the final day of racing at the Link Centre last Saturday. James Clark was again in fine form with senior championship victories in the individual medley, breaststroke and butterfly, all over 200m. Dolphin were denied a clean sweep of the boys’ championship trophies by the continuing good form of Salisbury’s Phil Muspratt who took the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke titles. Dolphin girls also claimed all of the 200m senior championship titles on offer with Charlotte Pitts, Charlotte Gardo and Lauren Matthews claiming gold in the individual medley, breaststroke and butterfly respectively. The other two senior girl’s titles went to the excellent Juliette Casini from Marlborough Penguins.

In the junior championship there was success for Adam Coleman in the 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 50m backstroke whilst Lauren Matthews added the 200m individual medley to her senior butterfly trophy.

For the second weekend in a row Chief Coach Louise Clayton had good reason to be pleased with the performance of all swimmers. “This has been a very encouraging championship for us. There has been improvement throughout the whole squad and it is very satisfying to see the swimmers training effort rewarded with personal bests and medals. But now we get back to more hard work as we build up to the regionals.”

The Dolphin youth squad now continue their preparation for the South West Regional Championships with an appearance at the Bristol Open Meet in April, whilst the younger swimmers began their County Age Group competition at the Link Centre on Sunday.
