Regional Champs in Short

Event: ASA South West Regional Short Course Championships
Venue: Millfield School
Date: 7th and 8th December 2013

The ASA South West Regional Short Course Championships has become an essential element of the early season training cycle for Dolphin’s top performers, following a lead set by the mighty Plymouth Leander whose dominance at the meet appears to grow year on year.

Although youth swimmers (15 years and over) are now unable to achieve national qualifying times at short course meets, it enables swimmers to race against national standard competition; a rare opportunity for many.

The vast majority of Dolphin’s 21 swimmers produced multiple personal best performances.  Given the quality of the competition, winning medals or achieving a championship final place was always going to be tough.  Jon Audis made the top eight in the 100m backstroke, finishing 6th in the final.   Lauren Matthews recorded an impressive 2:20.96 in the 200m butterfly to earn her place in the final, finishing in 7th place.  Dolphin’s only medal came from an on-form Rebecca Flack who won junior championship bronze in the 50m breaststroke and finished 7th in the championship final.
