Listed below are examples of expected behaviour and attitudes of Champion Swimmers.
- Arrive early for your training sessions. Champion Swimmers are punctual and if
they are late they will be first to offer an apology.
- Bring all your swimming equipment. Champion Swimmers are always prepared.
- Be the first in the water. This is the most important indicator, those who are first in the water for warm-up
have come to the training session with the right attitude, focus and frame of mind.
Swimmers hanging around, tying costumes, chatting or putting caps on when the warm-up
has started are preparing themselves to finish 4th or 9th - missing medals and finals.
Champion Swimmers have a desire to be the first.
- Complete every training set
to the best of your ability. Missing out lengths shows bad attitude – you are preparing
yourself to be a quitter – you are preparing to fail. Champion Swimmers do not fail
through lack of trying.
- Toilet visits between training sets NOT during sets.
Champion Swimmers do not go missing when there is work to be done.
- Be polite,
well mannered and respectful to your colleagues, coaches and officials. Champion
Swimmers are always remembered and observed by younger swimmers and other parents.
Create a positive impression of yourself.
- Rise to Challenges – Be Positive –
Things CAN be Done. Champion Swimmers will meet challenges head on and can perform
under pressure.
- Be an Energiser – Be part of the Team – Motivate those around
you. Negative people drain energy – do not let them influence you. Champion Swimmers
are good team members and realise the value of working with and supporting team
mates.
- Strive for Perfection – Concentrate on Perfect Technique. Concentrate
on Perfect Skills. Every Start, Turn, Push-Off and Finish is an opportunity to improve.
Walking in the shallow end is poor discipline – you are preparing to fail. Champion
Swimmers try to improve every session.
- Listen and Learn – your coach provides you with knowledge and education to help you improve. Champion Swimmers Listen,
Learn and Remember.
Wanting to be a Champion should not be just a statement of desire,
but a commitment to make those 100’s of little life choices each day to make sure
you become a winner!
Champions are not made on the day of the competition; they
are made in the days, weeks, months and years of training before the meet takes
place.
If you make Champion Choices, you will stand on the blocks with the confidence
of a Champion, the inner strength of a Champion and will ultimately race like a
Champion.
Being a Champion is not a magical, mythical status that you can never
achieve; world record holders and Olympic gold medallists alike all started at the
same point as you. So every time you are faced with a choice, take responsibility,
and just do what Champions do!
YOU CAN BE A CHAMPION
