Badge Night Issue Sept 2006
What is a Badge Night?
Badge nights are organised so that swimmers can compete against each other in a competitive environment at club level with officials as directed by the ASA rules, including qualified judges, starters and timekeepers.
What is the aim?
- To encourage participation, which will help when being selected for other competitions, gain confidence in their own ability, make friends and have fun.
- To give children an opportunity to experience competing against the clock with achievable target times set within their capabilities.
- To give teachers an idea of each swimmers’ progress in terms of technique, skills and speed in a fun, yet competitive environment.
How often do they take place?
They are organised to run on a Friday night, four times a year. Click here to view the Swindon Dolphin Calendar. If Badge Night not listed, then please contact the Small Pool Liason Officer.
What do I have to bring?
Each swimmer will need a towel, t-shirt and a drinks bottle.
Does it matter that it is not my normal swimming night ?
No, any swimmer who participates in the Small Pool lessons may take part.
What do they have to do?
Each child, dependent on their stage of development and ability, is given the chance to swim up to five lengths of the Small Pool
- Butterfly
- Backstroke
- Breaststroke
- Freestyle
- Individual Medley (IM) – one length of each stroke in the order listed above.
What will the swimmer achieve?
Initially, a time for each stroke and then hopefully, an improved time in every swim thereafter.
Are there any rewards?
When a swimmer is able to swim with correct technique judged on each individual stroke, there is a Stroke Award of a certificate and badge. Once a swimmer achieves a time, as set down by the ASA, with Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards for each stroke they will receive a letter of congratulations and details of how to obtain their respective certificates and badges.
Does it cost anything?
There isn’t any charge for the Badge Night but there will be a charge for the Awards.
