Dolphin Go Down Fighting

Event:  Bristol and West League Fixture
Teams: Cheltenham II v Swindon Dolphin
Location: Cheltenham Lido
Date: Wednesday, 16th July 2008

A small Swindon Dolphin water polo squad travelled to Cheltenham last night to take on a strong, experienced home side and though they battled bravely, went down 14 -10.  Struggling with the unfamiliar large outdoor pool environment, the Milton Road side saw Cheltenham start very well and build a two goal lead by the end of the first period.  Dolphin fought back and were a goal ahead by half time despite coach, David Quinlivan, receiving three personal fouls which ruled him out of the rest of the match.  The eight remaining players, especially veteran goal keeper, Andy Watts, went on to put in a determined performance but had to settle for second best at full time.

Top scorers on the night were Matt James who got 5 and James Godden with 2.  There were also single strikes for the ever impressive Michal Trzeciak, Andy Hicks & Chris Selby .

Result:  Cheltenham II 14 – 10 Swindon Dolphin

Team:  Andy Watts, David Quinlivan (3 majors), Chris Selby (1 goal, 1 major), Andy Hicks (1 goal, 1 major), Andy Prowse, Matt James (5 goals), Mark Lawlor (1 major), Michal Trzeciak (1 goal), James Godden (2 goals, 1 major)
