Audis Leads England South West in Geneva

Following their success at the recent South West Regional Championships, Jon Audis and Mel Agius along with 11 other swimmers from the region were chosen to represent England South West at the 2009 Geneva International Meet last weekend.

The team was coached by Millfield School’s Ed Sinclair, who swam in the 2000 Olympics, and Emma Collings, another ex-international swimmer, with Dolphin’s Jon Audis handed the honour of Team Captain.

Audis’ weekend got off to a superb start, reaching finals in both the 200m individual medley and 50m breaststroke on the first day, finishing a creditable 6th in the medley and 8th in the sprint event.  The 31:01s swam in the breaststroke also delivered a well deserved PB and his third national qualifying time of the season.

The third and final day of competition also saw Audis reach the final of the 100m backstroke, finishing in 6th place overall.  Other fine swims over the weekend in the 50 backstroke and 100 butterfly completed a superb weekend of racing for the 28 year old.

Mel Agius was competing in her favoured 50, 100, 200 and 400m freestyle events.  As expected, her best swim came in the 400, finishing just 5/100s short of a place in the final.
