On the last leg to Premier status

Event: National Arena League Western Division, Division 1 Round 1
Venue: Keynsham Leisure Centre
Date: 13th October 2012

Dolphin resumed their campaign to regain Arena League premier division status in the first round of the country’s top team competition at Keynsham pool. In the line up was Yeovil who were likely to be Dolphin’s main threat to achieving their goal.

Jon Audis and Charlotte Pitts got matters underway with convincing wins in the 100m individual medley. The following batch of relays saw only two wins from the eight events although maintaining top three finishes ensured an early lead. There was a similar pattern to the rest of the events, and despite 18 wins to Yeovil’s 19, a higher number of runner-up places for Dolphin meant a convincing overall points victory.

Craig Harris and Livvy Flack both enjoyed two wins apiece and there were also victories for Sophie Bartlett, Aaron Knight, Emily Dixon, Liam Jefferies, James Watson, Adam Coleman, Charlotte Gardo and James Clark. The girls’ 13/U and girls’15/U teams both won their medley events while the boys’ open team were unbeatable in what was probably the biggest winning margins of the evening in the 4 x 50m medley and 6 x 50m freestyle.

The second round of the league takes place on 10th November at Horfield when Swindon Dolphin take on Britsol Central, Barnstaple, Severnside Tritons A, Swim Bournemouth B and Bodmin.

Round 1 Points: Swindon Dolphin 249, Yeovil 224, Bodmin 145, Devonport Royal 142, Barnstaple 140, Bleanau Gwent Performance 138
